Why do we need a new bus garage?

The district's current bus garage, located adjacent to North Hornell School, is a safety concern. Buses regularly back into the school's parking lot, where parents drop off and pick up their children. The district's buses currently travel through residential neighborhoods to reach the garage, which poses other safety hazards. The state will fully aid the purchase of property and construction of a new bus garage.

If district residents approve construction of a new bus garage, the district would relocate its maintenance department to the current bus garage. The current maintenance building, constructed in 1912, is located adjacent to the Intermediate School and is in need of extensive renovation, including a new roof, boiler and freight lift. The estimated cost of renovations to this building would be at least $700,000 if proposition #2 does not pass. These costs would not be covered by state aid.

If proposition #2 is approved, the current maintenance building would be demolished, which also would create additional parking at the Intermediate School.
