Hornell High School Scholarship Master List
for Seniors

 

This scholarship list is basic information only, eligibility requirements and due dates change from year to year and are available on the website listed. . Funding for scholarships change and some are not offered one year and pop back up the next year. We update throughout the year, so please stop by the guidance office often for the updated list. Most of the local scholarships are available in April, May or June. Local scholarship applications are available in the 10-12 Guidance Office one month before the due date. The guidance office is constantly on the look out for more scholarships to add to our list and would appreciate any suggestions from parents, teachers, administrators and students.

 

Doris Gallose Girls Basketball Scholarship: Several $500.00 scholarships will be awarded to graduating female athletes who will be attending college. Applications are available in the 10-12 Guidance Office. Application deadline is March 4, 2011.

 

Gates Millennium Scholars Program: Based on GPA, community service, family income, and must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. More information and the application are available at www.gmsp.org. Due date: 1/10/2011.

 

Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! College Scholarship: National scholarship, application and other info available at www.ohtheplaces.org.

 

AES Engineers will be awarding $500 scholarships. Applications and more information are available at www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is Oct. 8, 2010.

 

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation: National scholarship awarding $3 million a year to 250 deserving students. For additional information go to www.coca-colascholars.org.

 

Wendy's High School Heisman: Must participate in sports and show leadership in your school and your community. For more information visit www.wendysheisman.com to apply.

 

Elk's National Foundation Scholarship Foundation: Elks has 3 scholarship programs. All applications can be found on the Internet at www.elks.org/enf.scholars. All applications are due to the Hornell Lodge, 60 Broadway Mall. Hornell, NY 14843, the date has yet to be announced.

 

The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.- Multiple local scholarships with descriptions and printable applications are available on their website: www.communityfund.org.

 

The New York Water Environment Association, Inc. Scholarship: Available to a high school senior who will be enrolled in an environmentally related program in a 4 year college. Application and information about the scholarship are available online at www.nywea.org.

 

Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship: For students planning careers in government service. Application and information are available online at www.gwcf.org.

 

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program: Information and application regarding the scholarship is online at www.kfcscholars.org.

 

Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York "Ned Carter" Scholarship: the graduating senior must me related to or be a firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York. Three $1500.00 scholarships awarded. Applications are available in the guidance office or on the Associations website www.firedistnys.com.

 

DECA Members 2010 Scholarship: Please check the website for scholarships set-aside exclusively for DECA members. www.deca.org/schol.html.

 

Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. Scholarship: Graduating seniors must be pursing an agricultural-related area of undergraduate study at a college in NY State. Application is available at www.nypotatoes.org.

 

ServU Credit Union Smart Saver Award: $250 to a graduating senior who will be attending a 2 or 4 year college and they must be a credit union SMART Saver. For more details go to www.servucu.com.

 

New York State Credit Union League Scholarship: $500 and $1000 scholarships available. For info regarding this scholarship go to www.servucu.com.

 

Manning & Napier Advisors Scholarship Program: This scholarship program has been established to assist high school seniors in the greater Rochester, NY area who plan to continue their education. For details go to www.manningnapier.scholarshipamerica.org.

 

Best Buy Scholarship Program: For information and application go to www.bestbuy.com/scholarships.

 

National Co-Op Scholarship Program: Must have cumulative high school average of 3.5(90) or better, and must be accepted to and attending one of the following colleges; Drexel University, Johnson and Wales, Kettering U., Pace U., RIT, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology Application Online at www.co-op.edu, or in the Guidance Office.

 

Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships: A $5,000 scholarship is distributed in payments of $625 per semester to one graduating senior from each participating public and private high school in NYS. The Scholarships are awarded to student leaders who demonstrate strong academic performance, participate in extracurricular activities, and display a commitment to community service. Society of Women Engineers 2010 Margaret R. Brewster scholarship program: The scholarship is open to female high school seniors who plan to major in engineering or computer science. For an application and brochure go to www.swe.org and select the "Scholarship" link.

 

Beatrice L. Williams Memorial Scholarship: To be eligible for this scholarship, you must attend Arkport, Avoca, Canisteo-Greenwood, Wayland-Cohocton, Hornell or Jasper-Troupsburg school and have applied to Alfred State College. The application will be available in the guidance office.

 

Hornell Association Scholarship: The application is available in the 10-12 Guidance Office to students whose parents are members of the Hornell Association.

 

VAC Employees FCU Scholarship: Five $500 scholarships are available to high school seniors and college freshmen that have been members of the VAC Employees FCU for at least one year. The application is available online at www.vacemployeesfcu.com.

 

Steuben County Counselors Association Annual Scholarship: Available to a college bound senior pursuing a career in the helping professions (teaching, health field, counselor�c). The application is available in the 10-12 Guidance Office in late spring.

 

Scottish American Society of the Southern Tier: This scholarship of $500 is available to any high school senior with an interest in or connection to Scottish heritage, history, literature, music or art. The application is available in the 10-12 Guidance Office.

 

Farm Credit East Scholarships: Farm Credit East awards up to twenty-eight $1,500 scholarships to qualified students, and considers at least one diversity scholarship as part of the program. They look for students who demonstrate exceptional achievement as future agricultural leaders. We make our decisions based on your essay, experience, course of study and extracurricular activities. Please complete your application electronically on FarmCreditEast.com.

 

Hornell Alumni Association 2010 Scholarship: The scholarships are based upon the student's application, financial need and academic performance. Every graduating senior who plans to continue his or her education should apply. Last year the Alumni Association awarded scholarships in excess of $114,000 to the Class of 2009. Applications are available in the 10-12 Guidance Office in April of 2011.

 

Richard "Monk" Kull $500 Grant: Any graduating senior who plans to study Environmental Science, Conservation, Agriculture or the Skilled Trades is eligible to apply. Please stop by the 10-12 Guidance Office for an application in May of 2011.

 

William and Dorothy H. Cox Foundation: Criteria for this scholarship: Eagle Scout/Gold Award, earned a varsity letter, GPA of 85 or better, must have excellent citizenship/community service. Applications forms are available in the 10-12 Guidance Office.

 

Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants: There is still time for students to apply. Visit their website at www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm to learn more about this opportunity.

 

American Legion Scholarship: The local Arthur H. Cunningham Post 440 will award two $300 scholarships. All seniors are eligible. Application is available in the 10-12 Guidance Office. Due back to guidance by May 31, 2011.

 

Hornell Rotary Club Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship. Applications are available in May 2011 at the 10-12 Guidance Office.

 

Lelia E.Tupper Writing Scholarship: This scholarship is open to juniors and seniors interested in attending Alfred University. To pick up a copy of the procedure for this competition please stop by the 10-12 Guidance Office. The portfolio must be postmarked by January 31, 2011.

 

Corning Community College Presidential Scholarship: If you are interested in attending Corning Community College please stop by the 10-12 guidance office for the application for this scholarship or check online at: www.corningcc.edu/future/scholarships. Check the website for application due dates.

 

Scholar Athlete Milk Moustache of the Year (SAMMY): The SAMMY Awards recognize exceptional high school student athletes across the country who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, on the athletic field and in their communities and who understand the importance of refueling their bodies with the protein and other nutrients in low fat or fat free mild.
