The summer of 2009 will be our SHADOW kick off. The summer project will begin each day at the high school and will involve travel throughout the city, work and fun in Shawmut Park, and out-of-town environmental adventures and recreation. Lunch, transportation, all necessary equipment, supervision, and trips will all be provided at no cost to the students through grant funds.
Students will work on projects with local scientists, teachers, and community leaders to address community environmental issues, collecting outdoor data and starting an in-depth service learning experience completing a GIS mapping project.
By fall, the program will be open to all 7-9th graders providing after school homework support, and then environmental programming and outdoor recreation. The summer program will work with a core of 15 students who will lead the way for the fall program scale up.
Please check back for updates as to our SHADOW student's progress, including photos highlighting their learning and accomplishments.
