Hornell Cross Country Parent Information Sheet
Excuses:
· If for any reason an athlete is to miss a practice or contest, extend us the courtesy of forewarning. We tend not to be punitive because it is rare that an athlete is a chronic truant.
Practices:
· Begin at 3:30 and are usually done by 5:00.
Meets:
· We would ask that you remind your child(ren) to bring adequate clothing, food, and running gear.
· Students are to ride the bus with the team to the meet. They may ride home with a parent as long as a note has been written and approved by Mr. Mastin.
· Scoring for meets depends upon the finish of our top 5 runners. Each place counts as points for the team. Unlike other sports, we are hoping for the lowest score. For example, if Hornell runners place 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 10th we score 25 points. The other team's runners place 2nd, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th; they score 30. Hornell wins. In the case of a tie (which has happened twice in recent years to the girls) we check the placement of the 6th and possibly 7th runners to break the tie.
Expectations:
· Maintain proper academic standing. We have been a scholar athlete team for many years now. We enjoy that reputation.
· Perform always to the best of your ability.
· Be courteous to all others. We actively foster a respectful and friendly relationship with all league and local teams. A fine example is the Tuesday Night Running Club and the pre-season camp; runners and coaches from J-T, Canisteo, Bath, and Alfred U. and State, as well as HHS alumni, have participated for the last several years.
· Set your goal and achieve. Improvement is the keystone of this program-- it is what we enjoy witnessing and what makes us successful.
· Have some fun, even when we don't play frisbee.
