The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization. Its members are a diverse group and are located all over the country - including more than 1,200 colleges and universities, conferences and other organizations.
The NCAA national office:
- administers 23 sports and championships for those sports
- gives advice and support to members during the rules-making process
- enforces NCAA rules, which are made by the members of the NCAA
- oversees the distribution of money to member institutions.
There are three divisions of NCAA member schools: Division I, Division II, and Division III. Any school that is a member of the NCAA belongs to one of these divisions.

Applying through the Eligibility Center is a process and the student athlete must be independent and self-sufficient in order to succeed. Student Athletes need to take responsibility for his or her own eligibility.
