HCSD Students test positive for COVID-19
Today the Hornell City School District learned that two students from the High School and one student from the Hornell Intermediate School tested positive for COVID-19. There were contacts in one of the high school cases connected to athletics and several in Hornell Intermediate School case. All families connected to student contacts have been communicated with and any child deemed to be a contact has been quarantined.
As mentioned earlier this week, in early April, the New York State Department of Health released new guidelines for schools. These guidelines are found on our web page or by clicking here.
The Hornell City School District has reviewed these new guidelines and incorporated them into our updated plan. Our plan can be found on our covid-19 web page and by clicking here. Most of the changes from NYS had already been implimented by the Hornell City School District. The two main changes from NYS was an increase in the requirment to wear face coverings when in school and the allowance of holding instruction with students where physical distancing can be reduced to 3 feet rather than 6 ft in certain circumstances. For Hornell, the main substantive change will allow for shorter physical distancing for band and choir and on occasion some classrooms. Whenever possible and practical, 6 ft of physical distancing will remain the standard for Hornell. Additionally, the district will be required to follow the updated guidelines when it comes to wearing face coverings while in school while maintaining opportunities for mask breaks. The entire plan can be found on our web page following the ling provided earlier.
To communicate relevant changes to the plan and to receive feedback, the district will host a webinar at 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
