Adventures in the Amazon
When Jayson Dinger did a unit on the animals found in the rainforest, his second-grade class became fascinated by how many types of frogs there were. The interest in the many Amazon Rainforest species turned into a student-led research project resulting in a series of non-fiction books about specific animals.

New After S'cool program supports students in Grades 2-6
Hornell City School District students in grades 2-6 can now take part in a new after school program, called After S'cool, from 3-5 p,m, every Monday-Thursday. The focus of this program is for academic recovery in the areas of ELA, math and social-emotional learning. Students also receive a healthy snack and participate in library with access to Maker Spaces, physical education with access to the school pool, art, and small group work in reading, writing and handwriting.

Elementary students begin swim lessons in P.E.
For many students, swimming during P.E. is their first opportunity to take formal lessons. This school year is the first time that second and third-grade students have the opportunity to participate in the swim lesson curriculum.

Hornell Students succeed in Regional DECA competition
This year, eleven Hornell City School District students participated in the annual Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Regional Competition, held December 20, 2021, at Alfred State College in Alfred, NY. Thirty-one students from Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Steuben counties attended.
