Dozens of students from 16 local schools were honored Monday for being everyday heroes.
Students were recognized for a variety of reasons, including being kind to each other, mentoring other students or volunteering in the community. All of the students were nominated by teachers and staff at their respective schools.
Officials say it's important to recognize students who go above and beyond in everyday acts of kindness.
"We're really excited to showcase these students and showcase the really great things they are doing every single day," said Christy Parsons, the marketing community specialist of First Heritage Federal Credit Union.
"It's a great honor to be recognized with all these magnificent students and what they have accomplished over the years," said Adam Zingler, one of the award recipients. "I'm truly humbled and honored to be a part of it and to be recognized as one of those heroes."
