CCC, Hornell City School District to offer two accelerated associate's degree programs
HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- Corning Community College, the Hornell City School District and the City of Hornell are collaborating to bring two accelerated associate's degrees to Hornell.
CCC will offer two programs, a business administration program and a program in human services. Both will be 16 months long and will begin in August.
Classes will be offered one night a week at the Hornell High School and all other coursework will be offered online. Officials say credit for prior learning and financial aid may also be available.
“We understand that people are busy and have many obligations,” said Dr. Katherine P. Douglas, President of SUNY Corning Community College. “We also understand the inherent value of an associate’s degree, including the professional doors it can open.”
The programs were chosen to meet identified workforce needs in the greater Hornell area. Community leaders are looking for people with the skills and knowledge that the coursework ensures.
“Our regional employers have been clear,” said Hornell Mayor John Buckley. “They need more skilled employees to meet increasing demands. Our residents have been equally clear: they need flexibly scheduled programs that will integrate with their already time-stressed lifestyles. I am pleased that we have identified a solution that works for our employers and tomorrow’s employees.”
"We are thrilled to play host to SUNY Corning Community College as they launch their programming in the Hornell area,” said Jeremy Palotti, Superintendent of the Hornell City School District. “During the last two years we have sought out partners in higher education to work collaboratively with the school to provide opportunities for our students and the community at large. We are hopeful that this small start will lead to more programming by SUNY CCC in our community."
