Maple City Sound donates $1,000 to Hornell music programs
HORNELL — Music in the Maple City reached a higher note thanks to a donation from Maple City Sound.
Using proceeds from the 2019 Music Under the Stars Drum and Bugle Corps Show, Maple City Sound donated $500 each to the choir and the band in the Hornell City School District.
The donation was made possible through the strong turnout for the show in July and the ensuing generosity of the headliner, the White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps of Dansville.
“The White Sabers kind of teamed up with us to help us with the show,” organizer Shawn Hogan explained. “We made a little money this year. We normally don’t make any money. This year we did, and I was going to share these funds with them. They said no, we’d prefer you give it to the music programs in your local community.”
Hogan presented checks to Hornell music teachers Christopher van Leeuwen, Todd Bialecki and Jonathan Neff.
“We appreciate it. Thank you so much,” van Leeuwen said.
Hogan said he would like future Maple City Sound shows to incorporate more involvement from the Hornell music program.
“My goal is to partner with these guys over the years coming forward to really promote it,” Hogan said.
